There is also the 18th-century church of Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae which is at the very tip of Italy’s heel.
The historic town of Gallipoli (40 minutes) is a very popular tourist destination during the summer months. In Greek, Gallipoli means “beautiful city” and the town does not disappoint. The town’s ancient walls soar over the harbour and fishing port. There is a daily fish market where if you go early you can pick up the freshest catch of the day.
